GARNET MALAYA Lighter tone
DESCRIPTION: Fantastic roughs; this red-orange to a pink-orange variety of garnet is mined from the ‘Arget’ mine in Ibadan Nigeria. It is first thought to be a Spessartite Garnet, they became known by the Swahili word Malaya (which translates to “outcast” because they do not fit into any traditional garnet categories) Nigerian Malaya Garnet is also supposed to contain a mixture of Pyrope, Almandite, and Spessartite. After cutting, Malaya Garnets will exhibit red scintillating flashes. This is a stone to buy for great cutting.
